ESL Job – Florida – General Manager
A vacancy has arisen for a General Manager responsible for legal compliance, and commercial and operational performance at LAL Language Centres (LALLC) in the USA. LAL is a global English language teaching provider with centres on three continents and partner schools around the world. In the USA, these centres currently comprise one all year round adult facility in Fort Lauderdale, and a seasonal young learner centre in Boca Raton. The ambition is for this number of centres to grow. The General Manager reports to the Director of LAL Language Centres, based in the UK.
The General Manager leads and manages a team comprising teachers and academic managers, a sales and marketing manager, financial administrator, reservations manager, host family coordinator, leisure and activity manager and receptionists and seasonal staff. S/he will liaise on a regular basis with the Director of LALLC, the Director of International Marketing and Sales, the Design and Communications Manager, Operational Systems Manager, Senior Reservations Manager and IT Network manager all based in the UK. S/he will also be expected to liaise from time to time with senior staff in the group’s parent company based in Germany and its accounting department based on the island of Malta.
The General Manager’s overall responsibility is to ensure the delivery of the highest standards of administration, customer service, tuition, accommodation, leisure and transport to our international language student clients, whilst at the same time growing and developing the business from both an operational and a commercial perspective. Sales growth and sharply improved profitability are short-term aims.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
• At least 10 years experience in the sector, or in an immediately related sector
• MBA, or MA in TESOL Management or equivalent.
• Proven track record in team leading and team building
• Full awareness and ability to read and manipulate spreadsheets as they apply to budgets, management accounts, capacities and content management
• Proven ability to submit fully costed business plans and follow up with rational action plans
• Cognisance of business law, and child protection codes and legislation
• Experience in preparing contracts and closing business deals
• The ability to strictly adhere to deadlines
• An energetic ‘can do’ approach with the character to lead by example
• The willingness and capacity to partake in extensive international travel as and when required.
• Must be able to drive
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES
• Working knowledge or better of at least one modern language other than English
• English Language Teaching experience
• Leisure programme management experience
• Familiarity with the hotel trade
RESPONSIBILITIES – As per Job Description
SALARY AND BENEFITS – 65 K-75 K depending on experience. An attractive vacation and bonus opportunity available, as well as medical/dental insurance.
