Washburn University’s Education Department invites applications for a nine-month Assistant Professor or Lecturer position in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) beginning August 2010, contingent upon funding. Qualifications: For the Assistant Professor Tenure-Track Position:The candidate must possess successful elementary, middle, or high school teaching experience and hold a teaching license in ESOL. The candidate must have an Ed.D. or a Ph.D. in education or an education-related field and have experience working with culturally and /or linguistically- diverse students. A completed doctorate is necessary for this tenure-track appointment. For the Non-Tenure Track Lecturer Position with possibility of renewal:The candidate must possess successful elementary, middle, or high school teaching experience and hold a teaching license in ESOL. The candidate must have a Master’s Degree in education or an education-related field and have experience working with culturally and /or linguistically- diverse students. Preferences:Preferences given to those candidates with expertise in a content area such as English, science, or special education, those who demonstrate experience working with clinical components associated with teacher education programs with ability to develop professional relationships with schools and communities addressing the needs of ESOL students, and those who have college teaching experience. Position:Teach courses for graduate and/or undergraduate candidates seeking an endorsement in ESOL. Develop practicum sites for ESOL candidates and supervise candidates in practicum settings. Serve as an advisor to candidates seeking the ESOL and/or elementary education licenses. Develop courses and other experiences to serve the professional development needs of P-12 teachers in areas related to work with ESOL students. The position will include a twelve-credit hour teaching load per semester. Courses will include ESOL Methods, ESOL Curriculum & Instruction, ESOL Assessment and ESOL Practicum and other courses as assigned.
