Position Summary: The ESL Instructor position is a faculty appointment with departmental and college service expectations. The position is renewable annually based on successful review.

Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in TESL/Applied Linguistics

Desired Qualifications: Ideal candidates will have native-like proficiency in English, M.A. TESL/Applied Linguistics, SLA, or closely related field, and at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience working with students from a broad range of L1 backgrounds in a university or post-secondary setting. Experience in teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

 Teach 20-40 contact hours per week during academic year
* Develop appropriate supplemental materials for assigned classes.
* Demonstrate and utilize effective planning, presentation, and classroom management skills.
* Set, conduct, and maintain regular office hours for consultation with students and colleagues.
* Provide mentor-ship and guidance to students.
* Attend and provide input at departmental and programmatic meetings.
* Ability to adapt to program and curriculum changes.
* Ability to adapt to new techniques/situations related to teaching assignment.
* Assess students’ performance in an accurate and unbiased manner.
* Keep students informed of their progress through regular formal and informal feedback.
* Treat all students fairly and impartially, maintaining cultural sensitivity.
* Assist with registration, testing, and placement testing each semester/session and as needed.
* Meet responsibilities and deadlines for recording attendance, grades, etc.
* Display courtesy and effectively interact within the department and University community.
* Cooperate with colleagues and program director by sharing ideas and materials willingly and by being accessible and dependable.
* Volunteer to work on projects (e.g. maintaining and improving ESL website, assisting with the creation and maintenance of an ESL Resource Library, etc.)
* Work cooperatively with the Office of International Programs, its Director and staff in achieving its initiatives and day to day operations as related to the English as a Second Language Program
* Consistently strive to grow professionally and to contribute to the profession (e.g. attend professional seminars, membership in professional organization related to the field, presenting at conferences, etc).
* Support and occasionally participate in social, recreational and cultural activities scheduled for students.
* Assist Department, director, Vice-Chancellor and University in achieving the goal of the ESL Department becoming CEA accredited
* Additional responsibilities and duties as deemed necessary by the program director.
