Arizona Western College Professor of English as a Second Language

$40,199 to $52,000 USD Per Year

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Masters Degree in TESOL, TESL, TEFL or related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline. Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college. Demonstrated sensitivity to needs of students, faculty and staff from diverse and multi-cultural backgrounds. Completion of EDU 250 – The Community College within two years of initial employment, or transcript indicating successful completion of similar course at another college. Preferred: Teaching experience at the community college level, Bilingual (English/Spanish), experience teaching online and/or hybrid courses. Position available January 2010.

TYPICAL DUTIES: Teaching Responsibility:
* Teach 15 equated load hours/semester (to include material and preparation time); develop and grade exams and instruments to evaluate student learning and progress; submission of student grades/progress as required by the programs/policies of Learning Services.
* Maintain a minimum of 5 office hours/week/semester load.
* Remain current in his/her discipline, updating course content when appropriate. Maintain standard syllabus/outline for each course, in accordance with program/procedures. Update course syllabus/outline annually.
* Work with Associate Deans and departmental faculty, develop and implement processes and tools for assessment of teaching and student learning outcomes incorporating appropriate methodologies and technology.
* In collaboration with colleagues and the Director of Assessment and Program Review under the guidance of the Dean/Associate Dean, develop a system for evaluation of teaching and learning including course competency expectations and student outcome measures.
* Working with the Associate Dean, incorporate results of assessments to modify instruction and materials.

College Responsibility:
* Collaborating with Associate Deans and departmental Faculty, Coordinator of Curriculum and Articulation, and Coordinator of Curriculum and Diversity, identify student-leaning outcomes; develop assessment processes and tools; incorporate results to enhance/modify instruction and material, degree program, course cluster, and/or certificate program as appropriate.
* Working and coordinating with Student Services and the Dean/Associate Dean, actively participate in student recruitment, retention, and advisement activities and programs.
* Participate in institutional functions such as, but not limited to, college committees, task forces, club sponsorships, facilitation of advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and associate faculty. Participation may be directed by Associate Deans, Deans, or the Vice President for Learning Services.
* Maintain 10 positive interaction hours/week. Attend graduation ceremonies.
* Working with the Associate Dean, and the Director of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE), serve as a resource for faculty members.

Community Responsibility:
* Participate in professional developmental activities outside the College, such as but not limited to, community events, boards, clubs, and conferences. Coordinate such participation with the Associate Deans, Deans, Vice President for Learning Services, CTE, as appropriate.
