Academic Director, Study Group USA at Merrimack College, North Andover, Massachusetts
Full-time ESL Academic Director; Part-time ESL Instructor
Study Group USA, a leader in English language training worldwide, seeks a full-time Academic Director and a part-time Instructor for our Transition Program at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. The Transition Program provides academic English language courses to international students who have matriculated at Merrimack College but need to improve their English language skills.
The full-time ESL Academic Director:
• Manages the Transition Program according to Study Group standards prescribed in the Program Curriculum, Guide, and Syllabi;
• Teaches up to five courses at two levels for a total of up to 15 hours per week (Reading & Vocabulary I; Reading & Vocabulary II; Academic Writing; Academic Writing & Grammar; and Study Skills);
• Proctors the Reading, Listening, Speaking, & Writing Labs for a total of up to 10 hours per week;
• Counsels students and a part-time instructor, liaises with Study Group Academic Directors at other colleges, and reports to the Program Manager and the Center Director;
• Works 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, during the Merrimack College Spring Semester (18 weeks from January 5 to May 17, 2009, except March 16-20);
• Compensation is $14,250 per 18-week semester plus benefits (health insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, retirement plan).
Required qualifications:
• A Masters degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Teaching, or an equivalent field;
• Three years ESL/EFL teaching experience;
• Ability to supervise staff and work within a global company;
• Organizational and logistical skills;
• Interpersonal, customer service, and cross-cultural skills;
• Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, SMART Board);
• Enthusiastic, creative, and driven to succeed;
• Desire to care for the academic well-being of international students.
The part-time ESL Instructor:
• Teaches four or more courses at two levels for a total of 12 or more hours per week (Listening & Speaking I; Listening & Speaking II; Grammar; and American Culture);
• Counsels students 1 hour per week;
• Works mornings or afternoons, three days per week, according to Instructor preference, during the Merrimack College Spring Semester (18 weeks from January 5 to May 17, 2009, except March 16-20);
• Compensation from $5,600 (or more, depending on course load) per 18-week semester. No benefits.
Required qualifications:
• A Masters degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Teaching, or an equivalent field;
• One year ESL/EFL teaching experience;
• Ability to work within a global company;
