English Teacher
Institute of Applied Technology

Purpose: To teach English to national male students who need a solid foundation in English which they will use to develop their vocational skills. The incumbent is responsible to assess students’ performance with the aim of helping students develop the linguistic ability to function effectively in an international environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare course materials, homework assignments and handouts.
• Assess students’ coursework.
• Communicate information on progress and performance to students and relevant people.
• Maintain student attendance records, transcripts and any other student records.
• Organize, accompany and supervise students on field trips where required.
• Maintain a teaching log and compile a course team report at the end of each semester.
• Contribute to the planning, evaluation and revision of curricula, course content and methods of instruction.
• Participate in the development and organization of student projects within class, courses and programmes.
• Be available to travel to any IAT location for designated meetings, workshops, system-wide assessment and marking sessions and conferences as part of your duties.
• Participate in student recruitment, registration and placement activities.
• Act as advisor to student organizations where appropriate.
• Participate in college and community events.

Experience and Qualification

• Minimum of 2 years of successful teaching experience.
• CELTA or DELTA qualification.

Language

• Fluency in English, native speaking candidates preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred

The Institute of Applied Technology is endeavoring to lead career-based technical education in the region. Founded in 2005 through a royal decree of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, IAT has been set up to create a world class system of career-based technical secondary education for UAE students. IAT’s aim is to meet the industrial and technical challenges and requirements that will allow students to enter higher education institutions and pursue careers in advanced technology. The five IAT secondary school campuses are located in Abu Dhabi, Al-Ain, Dubai, Ras Al-Khaimah and Fujairah. However, IAT’s projects extend beyond our secondary schools and encompass such higher learning startups as aviation, logistics, nursing, and a vocational training center. At present the institute’s program are focused within four career clusters: Engineering Math and Sciences; Manufacturing and Mechatronics; Logistics and Transportation; Architecture and Construction. IAT’s growing learning community is comprised of more than 2700 K10-12 students, 400 teaching staff and 260 support professionals.
