<p>Peace Corps has a growing demand for certified English and TEFL teachers as well as recent college graduates with little teaching experience.  Volunteers bring diverse experience and educational backgrounds to the classroom. <p>Duties: Teaching 12 to 15 contact hours of ESL and English course per week with one to four preparations. Teaching classes in accordance with the goals and objectives of the course as described in the course outline. Maintaining accurate records of student attendance and student learning outcomes/grades, in accordance with COM-FSM regulations. Submitting records to Chairperson after the end of the semester/session. Keeping at least 5 office hours per week. Participating in one standing committee; may be asked to participate in adhoc committees. Advising students. Participating in special College functions such as graduation. Participating in Division activities. This includes meetings, curriculum development and developing procedures for improving current classes. Participating in assessment activities. Participating in professional development. Attending to additional needs of the College or the community as agreed upon by the faculty member in consultation with their supervisor.</p>
<p>Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in English, TESOL, or ESL from a US accredited institution. Masters in TESOL preferred. Foreign credentials must be equated to US standards. Applicant must have two years of full-time teaching at the post-secondary level and experience with establishment and assessment of student learning outcomes. Two years experience teaching college level with ESL students and two years experience in living overseas from the applicant homeland is preferred. Ability to give evidence of exemplary teaching ability, initiative, interpersonal skills, and cultural sensitivity are essential.</p>

WorldTeach is based at the Center for International Development at Harvard University and has been training, placing, and supporting volunteers in developing countries since 1986.</p>
<p>We currently offer year-long, summer, and six-month programs in locations throughout the world.</p>
<p><strong>Year-long programs:</strong> American Samoa, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Namibia, Rwanda and Thailand.</p>
<p><strong>Semester-long programs</strong>: Chile Ministry Semester and Namibia Semester.</p>
<p><strong>Summer Programs</strong>: Bulgaria, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Namibia, Poland and South Africa.</p>
<p>Most volunteers teach English and in some countries, volunteers may also teach math, science, computer skills and HIV/AIDS awareness. Volunteers work as full-time teachers in their placement countries, as employees of their host schools or sponsoring institutions.  Most volunteers live with a host family or on the school campus, and participate fully in the life of their host communities.</p>
<p><em>Details/Qualifications:</em></p>
<p>For year and semester long programs, volunteers must have a BA/BS degree. For summer programs, volunteers must be 18 years of age. Volunteers must be native English speakers and should demonstrate a commitment to international development, teaching, public service and cultural understanding.</p>

In 1986 independence was attained under a Compact of Free Association with the US, which was amended and renewed in 2004. Present concerns include large-scale unemployment, overfishing, and overdependence on US aid.</p>
