We need enthusiastic, energetic and dependable people to work as camp counsellors at English camps throughout Italy for the Summer of 2011! You must be a native English speaker and love working with children. Italian language skills are not necessary.

ACLE is officially endorsed by the Italian Ministry of Education and has been running Summer Camps for 28 years. English lessons are combined with games, songs, sports and drama to make English interesting and enjoyable to children. It’s a great Summer experience with fantastic benefits for you and the children you meet.

Each year ACLE sends over 600 native English speaking counsellors to over 300 Camps located all over Italy, including the Dolomites, Rome, Milan, Venice, Verona, Bologna, Pisa, Siena, Naples & Sicily to name a few. We provide accommodation, transport to camps, meals, weekly wages of 225 Euros, a bonus & a 5 day orientation where you will receive an Introductory TEFL certificate.

No official qualifications are necessary, however a degree or other relevant subject in a relevant subject is well regarded.
You must be a native English speaker and have some experience of working with children, Italian language skills are not required.

We also require tutors commencing work on either May 30th or June 6th to be available to work until July 9th, due to a high volume of work during this time.

Since 1994 our school has been offering quality English language courses and now has two branches in central Palermo.

We provide a dynamic working environment with many opportunities for professional development. British Institutes Palermo is a stable school with an experienced teaching team. Many of our teachers have been working here for more than one year, and several of us have been here more than five years. Your colleagues, two Directors of Studies and Young Learners Coordinator will be more than happy to provide you with the support you need.

We teach a variety of courses: ‘Happy English’ for children aged 5-7; courses for young learners; General and Business English for adults; conversation classes; one-to-one lessons; and preparation for British Institutes and TOEFL examinations. We are an authorised TOEFL examination centre. Courses at all levels may take place on British Institutes premises or at external sites such as hotels, businesses or state schools. Teachers who work here need to be good all-rounders rather than specialists; you must be willing to teach any age or level.

Teachers are given a set coursebook and a comprehensive syllabus based on the Common European Framework for each course they teach. They are encouraged to adapt and supplement the coursebook according to their students’ needs and their own teaching style. We have a substantial resource library of books, CDs, videos, DVDs and CD ROMs.

Our school has a fully equipped multimedia room with internet-enabled computers, a projector and screen, and a sound system. A classroom DVD player and video player are also available. Teachers are encouraged to integrate multimedia into their lessons.

Salary: we guarantee to pay the teacher for a minimum of 80 classroom hours per month, even if the teacher actually works fewer hours. The payment for these guaranteed hours is 900 euros per month net (i.e. after tax). Any extra hours worked are paid in a lump sum at the end of the contract, at a rate of €12.50 per hour net.

British Institutes Palermo will pay a contribution (maximum 100 euros) towards your outward travel costs. A single room is available in a flat near the school, at a cost of 250 euros per month – this flat is shared with three other members of the school staff. You are, of course, free to make your own accommodation arrangements if you wish.

The successful applicant will have a university degree, CELTA or equivalent, and one year or more of relevant experience. It is imperative that he/she holds EU citizenship or has an existing ‘permesso di soggiorno’ in order to work legally in Italy. Please do not apply if you do not meet these requirements.
