About the University:
The Universidad Nacional de Agricultura of Honduras (UNA) is a public, non-profit institution created to educate Hondurans in areas that are critical to the national development of the country. Located in Catacamas (about four hours northeast of Tegucigalpa), it was founded in 1950 as the Demonstrative Farming School. It later became the National School of Agriculture, and finally in 2002, the National University of Agriculture. Our main objective at UNA is to contribute to scientific, technological and socioeconomic development of the Honduran society. We place emphasis on the rural sector to educate agricultural scientists who are capable of contributing to the sustainable development of the country.

The university currently has six undergraduate majors: Agronomy, Natural Resources, Food Technology, and Veterinary Medicine are for boarding students; Education in Food Technology and Administration of Agricultural Business are two additional majors for commuting students.

There are over 2,000 students (about 1,780 boarding students and 500 commuting students). The boarding students come from all over Honduras, mostly from low-income families. This year there are representatives from the 50 municipalities with the lowest human development index ranking and representatives from all eight indigenous and Afro-Honduran groups. There are also representatives from 60% of the municipalities in Honduras; 40% of the student body is made up of women and 12% of the student population is of indigenous or Afro-Honduran descent. The majority of the students receive full scholarships enabling them to attend the university. The commuting students are usually from Catacamas or nearby areas. After graduation, many students return to their communities, becoming leaders in their fields of study.

The Universidad Nacional de Agricultura is expanding and transforming rapidly. The student population has gone from 200 to 2,000 students in four years and the English program is growing in response to these developments. Boarding students at UNA are required to take one to three English courses.

More advanced English levels are offered as optional courses to students who desire to become fluent in the English language and eventually do an undergraduate internship abroad, a study abroad program (UGRAD/Fulbright) or apply for postgraduate scholarships abroad. Our growing English program now includes preparation for the TOEFL so that students can better take advantage of these types of opportunities.

See our webpage for more information about the university: http://unag.edu.hn

We are seeking qualified applicants who are willing to work closely with colleagues and parents to provide the best possible educational environment in a developing educational program.

Southwest School, located in La Esperanza, Honduras is seeking middle and high school teachers for the 2009-2010 school year. The class size ranges between five to twenty students.

La Esperanza is a quiet small town located in the mountains of Southwestern Honduras, situated at en elevation of 1700 meters above sea level, providing a much cooler climate than most of Central America. We are seeking qualified applicants who are willing to work closely with colleagues and parents to provide the best possible educational environment in a developing educational program. While Southwest School lacks many of the materials and guidance that are expected by US standards, enthusiastic teachers will be able to experience a rewarding working environment with full support from the school and parents as well as practice teaching strategies with little interference.

For more information please contact:
