Starting Dec 19 and February 26

Please read this announcement in its entirety before sending in your résumé

Background: Al Yamamah University, with state-of the-art facilities and excellent support services, offers a North American-style education and curriculum in English for men and women in two separate colleges. In partnership with Al Yamamah, Saudi INTERLINK Language Center (SILC) provides intensive English and academic preparation programs during the “Foundation Year” and business English throughout the students’ stay at the University. The SILC program is based on the same humanistic and holistic theories and principles of education as those used at the INTERLINK centers in the United States. At the core of INTERLINK’s success in English language training is an abiding respect for and commitment to the students themselves as well as an overarching mission to bridge the distances between countries and cultures by enhancing communication skills.

General Qualifications: SILC is seeking creative, flexible and committed educators who are comfortable with and able to adapt to an experiential, project- and needs-based program. Our curriculum is informed by a wide range of research in education and language learning, held together by a number of distinct yet interrelated linguistic and pedagogical principles. Teachers with a preference for a system of instruction that promotes inductive learning and critical thinking are most comfortable and successful in our program.

Responsibilities: The teacher’s primary responsibility is to help students achieve English proficiency and academic readiness in preparation for study at the University or for professional and personal purposes. Teachers may also be required to teach classes offered to outside institutions and to members of the business community or general public as part of the teaching load. Specific responsibilities include:
• 20 hours of weekly instruction in two-hour blocks – one focusing on reading and writing and one on communication skills
• advising students on their progress
• assisting students with study skills, time-management and learning strategies
• helping program administrators with curriculum review, revision, ongoing assessment, orientation, scheduling, and placement
• serving on University committees, participating in program meetings, and in off-campus activities and events

Salary and Benefits: Commensurate with qualifications, the tax-free salary ranges between US$38,000 and US$45,000 per annum. The benefit package includes round-trip transportation to and from Saudi Arabia; free furnished housing; full medical insurance coverage; paid 45-day annual leave with international transportation; 20 days of local holidays; local transportation to and from the University; annually renewable contract; 5% end-of-service bonus for each year of completed contract; and salary increases of 6%, 7%, 8% and 9% for years 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively.

Application Procedure and Deadlines: The selection process is a two-way street; we believe it is vital that you know as much as possible about our philosophy, the program and its curriculum, the position and its requirements, and that we know about you as a colleague in the field and about your values and philosophy as they relate to working in this profession. Before submitting your résumé, you must read this announcement fully and must learn about us as much as possible by visiting . After you have learned more about us and if you still think our institution is the right organization for you and you meet the requirements, then follow the application procedure exactly as outlined in this announcement. Those not meeting qualifications or not following the application procedures will not be acknowledged.

Because of the program’s continual growth and the fact that SILC offers an eight-level curriculum at 8-week intervals during the year, faculty recruitment is on-going. Employment start dates are October, December, and March.
