Foundation Integrated Skills and Post-Foundation Undergraduate English
Full-time, 3-year contract, renewable
The mission of the University’s Foundation Program English Department is to prepare high school graduates to meet the common entrance requirements in English as set by the University. With more than 3000 students and 125 faculty, the Foundation Program English Department offers a dynamic, innovative and professional work environment. Due to continued program expansion, the Foundation Program English Department at Qatar University is currently recruiting resourceful, culturally sensitive, academic professionals seeking creative input within a diverse EFL/EAP faculty, commencing early September, 2009.
Responsibilities include teaching up to 18 contact hours per week in the Foundation multi-level integrated skills program or the Post-Foundation Undergraduate English program; contributing to and participating in testing and assessment; curriculum and program development; e-learning; and student advising and support activities.
Required qualifications and experience:
A Master’s degree in TESOL, ELT, or Applied Linguistics from a reputably accredited university/program with at least two years’ EAP/EFL/ESL teaching experience at university/ tertiary/adult level (overseas experience is desirable). Knowledge of best teaching practice is essential, as are experience in testing and assessment, instructional technology , and curriculum and materials development. The ability to adapt to and participate in different cultures and learning environments, and to contribute to an innovative and challenging academic instructional program is an asset. For positions in the Post-Foundation Undergraduate English program, experience in teaching university-level EAP/ EFL/ ESL writing composition is preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
A competitive, monthly tax-free salary with QU performance-based annual increments; opportunities for additional hours as paid overtime; furnished accommodation; annual air tickets for the faculty member and eligible dependents; end-of-service gratuity, currently equivalent to one month’s basic salary for each year of completed service; paid annual leave of about 60 days, in addition to approximately five weeks (religious holidays; mid-year; and Spring breaks) of paid leave during the QU academic year 2009/2010; an interest-free car loan; shipping allowance for employee and accompanying spouse; and tuition allowances for eligible dependents from primary through secondary education at schools in Qatar where English is the medium of instruction.
