Full-time positions in San Luis PotosÃ, México!
May 9th, 2008 | Mexico
Interpersonal English has been providing personalized English courses in San Luis Potosà since 2005. Most of our students are professionals who need personalized English courses that help them improve their English in a way that can be immediately useful in their jobs. They do not need traditional lessons with a teacher standing in front of them telling them how to speak without giving them the opportunity to fully contextualize the material.
As a result, we have developed grammar units that can be personalized into textbooks that we make for the students to attack their most immediate English needs. To contextualize the material, we play games. The concept is that through constant interactive practice and repetition, the students learn how to use the grammar in a setting that is fun and enjoyable. These students work very hard all day long, and quite simply will not come to class if it bores them to death. Our program is not only much more fun for the students and teachers, but is also more effective in helping the students contextualize material. Class size is very small, usually from 3 to 6 students, and we emphasize games every day. Ideally, students will play some sort of game to acheive the day’s objective.
We are a small school. Currently, there are five full time teachers and three part time teachers. Inspite of this, we are growing very fast and have the immediate need for more teachers. Although all of our teachers are native speakers, we have managed to hire almost all teachers locally. Now is the time to take the next step and to focus on hiring teachers who have not yet moved to San Luis PotosÃ. This is a big step for us, and it is very important that we find the right fit. We are a family business, and recognize that it is very important to take good care of the teachers who we hire. As a result, all teachers are offered a full time position, regardless of the number of classes they teach. I can promise you that if you are selected to work with us, we will take all of your needs and concerns very seriously and do everything that we can to make sure that you are always comfortable.
The position that we have is for an entry level teacher, which pays $7,000 pesos a month less taxes. Although this is not enough to get rich, it is enough to live comfortably. The classes are one hour a day, Monday through Friday. Generally classes are given in the mornings (7AM to 8AM) and evenings (5-9PM). Teachers are expected to work 8 hours a day, Monday to Friday. If they are not in class, they are helping to develop material and games for the school.  All teachers must complete a one week training period before starting their classes.
New teachers are responsible for paying half of the FM-3 (visa) cost for the first year, which is roughly $2000 pesos (roughly $1000 pesos for you). They are also responsible for providing their own transportation to San Luis PotosÃ. After completing one year with us, we will reimburse you for your share of the visa cost and pay for your visa renewal for the following year. Accomodation costs vary depending on what you want, but you can expect to pay a family from $1,500 to $2500 pesos a month for room and board. Living indepently in an appartment, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1000 to $3000 pesos a month. In the case that you wanted to live with a family, I would find a household for you. If you wanted to live independently, I would help you find a roomate or an apartment. If ever you were to not 100% happy with your living arrangements, I would be the first to help you find something that is satisfactory.
San Luis Potosi is a colonial mining town in central Mexico which has developed into an industrial hub over the past 20 years or so. Tourism is a very small industry here, which in my opinion makes it an ideal location for immersion. I am happy to give you any information that you would like about SLP, but would recommend that you do some research of your own. I love this town and am very biased, so perhaps you will get more impartial information from other sources.
Please think over this opportunity, and if it is one that you would like to persue, please email your resume and a recent photo to jobs@interpersonalenglish.com.
