THE JOB
Guest English Teachers GETs are required to conduct English conversation classes to Korean primary and secondary school students as part of the Korean government’s aim to promote and strengthen English language education. A candidate should have a strong sense of creativity and motivation as well as enjoy working with learners from various age groups as part of an academic team. Teachers are expected to focus on the development of oral communication skills using interactive teaching methods. These positions are contingent upon the satisfactory outcome (as determined by the board) of the pre-employment screening activities (including criminal history check and medical check) as required under the Korean Immigration procedures and the Korean Ministry of Education bylaws.
TEAM TEACHING SCHEME (ESL Co-teaching Scheme with Several Korean English Teachers)
Although, ideally the goal of the program is to carry on the entire English learning experience only in English, the ex-pat teacher does not exclusively do it. As per the EPIK’s procedure, each native teacher is paired with several Korean English teachers to successfully prepare and execute every lesson for the whole school year. The Korean English teachers are in charge primarily to handle issues of classroom management and collaborate with instruction and class preparation. He/She is also task to communicate effectively the curriculum goals of the district for the school year as well as help the expat teacher settle in Korea.
