British Institutes Palermo seeks an EFL Teacher to begin on or before 23rd November 2009.

Since 1994 our school has been offering quality language courses, and we now have two branches in central Palermo.  We are not a ‘method’ school, and our courses are not computer-based.  We emphasise face-to-face interaction between the teacher and the students, using a broadly communicative, student-centered approach.  The working environment is dynamic, yet supportive.  Our Director of Studies, Young Learners Coordinator and friendly, experienced teaching team will be more than happy to provide you with the help you need.

We teach a variety of courses: ‘Happy English’ for the kindergarten age group; Young Learners courses, divided by age and ability into eight different levels; General English courses for adults leading to British Institutes examinations (accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education); Business English; conversation courses; and preparation for TOEFL.  We are an authorised TOEFL examination centre.  Courses may take place on British Institutes premises or at external sites such as state schools or local businesses.

Teachers are given a set coursebook and a comprehensive syllabus based on the Common European Framework for each course they teach.  They are encouraged to adapt and supplement the coursebook according to their students’ needs, their own teaching style, and the objectives of the course.  We have a substantial resource library of books, CDs, videos, DVDs and CD ROMs.  Our school has wireless internet connection in all the classrooms.  DVD players, flat screen TVs and a projector are also available for use in lessons.

We offer a competitive local salary, a contribution towards travel costs from your country of origin, and help with finding accommodation in Palermo.  Induction and training are provided on arrival.

The successful candidate will be able to start on or before 23rd November 2009, and commit to a contract that will run until the end of June.

You must be a native English speaker with EU nationality or an existing, valid Italian ‘permesso di soggiorno per lavoro’.  Please do not apply if you do not meet these requirements – your application will not be processed.

You should have a recognised TEFL certificate (CELTA or equivalent) and, preferably, at least one year of teaching experience.  Italian language skills and experience of living and working in Italy are advantages.   Maturity, flexibility, the willingness to teach all ages and levels, and a pleasant, cheerful personality are essential.
