Teach academic English on a successful pathway program!


You’re qualified, a native speaker, and some teaching experience under your belt? Interested in expanding your teaching repertoire?The Wuxi South Ocean College International Pathway Program in Wuxi introduces students to academic studies in English so that they can go on to study business, computer science, and hospitality management at Western universities.

With students completing their degrees in Australia, Ireland, and the United States, we are looking for teachers who can introduce academic English and study skills to young adults. Having been through university yourself, you’d realise that foreign students need to learn how to understand and use complex language and ideas to cope with university in English. Teaching this to students requires an excellent understanding of language, an ability to creatively adapt lessons, and a willingness to encourage a student-centred classroom.

- Have a bachelor’s degree (or more!)
- Have completed a TESOL certificate
- Have had some experience teaching ESL

We provide:

- 7000 RMB/month
- Additional 500RMB/month for Masters or PhD. in related field (education or linguistics)
- 450 RMB/month travel and food allowance
- Return airfare to and from your country (if needed)
- Pick up from the airport

- 1-bedroom apartment in a residential garden (very pretty!) with tennis courts, convenient store, restaurant, and coffee shop
- Electricity and water provided (up to 600 RMB per month)

So what’s the job?

English for Academic Purposes teacher for first year college students. 20 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

Where is Wuxi? Approximately 1 1/2 hours west of Shanghai.

Will it have what I need to get by? Absolutely. Wuxi is a city of 5 million people, and it has many supermarkets, shopping centres, and both international and local restaurants.

Will there be anything to do when I get there?
Definitely. Wuxi has beautiful parks and gardens, a small zoo (with pandas), and markets. It is also very flat, so it’s great for bike riding.

Is it easy to go travelling from Wuxi?
Extremely. Wuxi is close to Shanghai, Suzhou, and Nanjing. If you want to go further afield, the train can get you almost anywhere in China. There is also an airport that will get you to various cities in China and to Hong Kong.
