Teach English - Shanghai, China | ESL TEFL Job

Seeking a native English speaker to teach children in Qingpu, a Shanghai suburb, starting in mid to late June.  I am leaving to go to graduate school and am looking for someone to take my place.  I talk to a lot of other English teachers—trust me, this is a great job.

Responsibilities:

You will be teaching children, aged 2-8 in a private language school.  Classes are small, usually about 5 children per class, and their parents attend as well (which means you’re not responsible for discipline).

The contract is for 16 classes a week, but initially you will teach less than that and still make a full salary (I currently work 3 days a week).    Each class is 45 minutes long.

Most of the class materials and lesson plans are provided.  Preparation time is minimal, much less than for teaching adults.  This means you will have lots of free time to pursue other interests or explore China.  I currently take an intensive Chinese class 4 days a week, for instance.

Benefits:

Salary: 7000RMB/month + new student enrollment bonuses and contract completion bonuses.

Housing: Provided, including satellite TV and DSL Internet.

Other: Paid training; Visa service; free cell phone; Paid national holidays

Additionally, the owners of the school are a couple who also own a very nice restaurant where you can often eat for free.  The owners have included me in their family, introduced me to many people, taken me on family vacations, etc.  Trust me, bosses this nice are very hard to come by.

About Qingpu:

Qingpu is 30-45 minutes by bus from downtown Shanghai (People’s Square).  It is a small town by Chinese standards, but it has plenty of conveniences, including Western restaurants, bars, KTV, gyms, supermarkets, Starbucks, etc.  It is also located near the ancient water town of Zhujiajiao. 

 About you:

Native English speaker.

Teaching experience and/or certificate preferred but not required.  But you should be willing and able to teach children (it’s not that hard).

One year contract term with completion bonus.
